Update: Merca was adopted in February, 2006, and is now known as Pookie. After her adoption, we received the following update on February 21 of that year: "We are very happy to have Pookie! She seems to be adjusting well. Our dominant male cat and her are very wary of each other. She is a bit intimidated by him and he's using it to his advantage (gaining his space and superiority). We have had no big confrontations and are being watchful. She is doing rather well with our kitten, Olivia. They're very funny to watch. Pookie is cautious with her because of Kent (the male). They (Pookie and Olivia) circle each other trying to get a sniff while not allowing the other to sniff at the same time. Pookie tried getting her to play earlier today and was ignored. She's been following Olivia around as much as she can. We had a quiet afternoon together. We worked on commands and I ran around the backyard with her for a bit. It's a little difficult for either of us to run in all the snowdrifts back there from Thursday's blizzard. This morning we took her to the pet store where I used to work and introduced her there. One of the groomers had a cancellation so she also got a bath and a trim. I plan on taking a picture of her, she looks so cute all trimmed up and with her Valentine's Day bandanna on! The groomer said she did very well and was pretty calm. Grandma has already spoiled her with chew bones and a whole bucket of biscuits (which we will likely attempt to have her work for).
