BUT THAT’S AN AUSSIE! Isn’t this Border Collie Rescue?
Kizzee was lucky enough to melt the hearts of a couple fosters when she wasn’t doing well in a shelter environment after being picked up as a stray. Since then, she’s learned how to live with a family and wants a family of her own.
If cuddling were a sport, Kizzee would win Gold every time. She is the sweetest little thing that is happy to lie at your feet but would prefer to be a lap dog. She has a very fun, silly personality and goes with the flow of a busy household. Training has been easy with this girl… she loves treats and you can see her brain thinking through what is being asked of her.
Kizzee loves to play and be with her people. Tug, ball, frisbee, playing with other dogs, running wild and free – it’s all fun! Her attention span for training and play is great, especially when treats are involved. She is a blank slate for anyone looking for an adventure buddy or sport dog prospect.
Look for #fostermskizzmetsfancee on Facebook to see her progress as a GLBCR Foster dog.
Gender: Approx 10-12 month old Female Aussie – spay pending end of November
Color & Markings: Red Tri, 4 white socks, small white mark between eyebrows and on R side of muzzle. White spot on back of neck.
Medical: No known issues
House manners: No accidents in the house. Kizzee shows some counter-surfing behavior that has been minimized with keeping counters cleared. Waits at doors to be released. She does get “mouthy” when over-excited, but does not bite or nip. It’s more of a “I want to hold your hand” or the leash.
Leash manners: Kizzee needs some work on leash manners as she does pull when there is something exciting. Treats and patience waiting for her to calm down and focus have been successful methods for practicing loose leash walking.
Potty Habits: No accidents in the house or when crated for up to 9 hours during the workday. She goes out first thing in the morning, after meals, and before bed. Kizzee will ask to go out by barking at the door. She has a “potty spot” that she will “go potty” when asked. New places take a bit of sniffing to find the perfect spot.
Food & Water: Eats well 2x daily and is not a picky eater. No resource guarding with resident dog or children.
Grooming: Wiggles for baths, but tolerant. Successful nail trims with peanut butter in a Kong to keep the wiggles at bay. Loves to be brushed and allows touch anywhere.
Barking: Kizzee found her voice and will let you know her opinions but can be asked to “quiet.” Big emotions need redirection.
Escape Tendency: I have not seen anything to indicate that she would be an escape risk. She is highly handler focused and recalls away from distractions well. She spent a day “working” with me outside on a farm dragging a long line and was happy to bounce around between the groups of people without getting herself into trouble. A fenced yard is preferred, but not required with the use of leashes and long-lines until trust can be established.
Fears: Kizzee isn’t a fan of the vacuum, but chooses to go to another room to rest until it’s done.
Visitors, strangers, children: Kizzee has not met a person that she doesn’t like. She can be a bit jumpy at first due to the excitement, but will sit and wait for pets once the initial excitement is over. Young children (under 6) would need to be supervised as Kizzee isn’t fully aware of her surroundings when playing and would likely knock them over unintentionally.
Other animals, dogs, cats: Kizzee has met a few different dogs and mirror plays really well to match their play style. She is not pushy but likes to run and chase during play. Cats are interesting, but not to be trusted and she will ignore them for the most part.
Games & Toys: Kizzee loves to chew on bones! She shows interest in ball and frisbee (rollers).
Car rides: Kizzee is a dream riding crated in the car. She jumps up into her crate willingly and rides quietly.
Crate: Kizzee goes in her crate willingly and typically settles within minutes. Sometimes she’ll whine for a bit when I first leave, but does not carry on.
Commands: Knows Sit, Crate, Off, Come/Here, Quiet, Done (finished with work/playtime). We are working on Down, Off, and Settle
