Hi! I’m Tango!

I was presented for euthanasia when I was eight weeks old because they thought I had hydrocephalus, but a kind-hearted young adult saved me, kept me, and loved me very much. Unfortunately, this young adult could no longer be my person, so I was given to the GLBCR family and put in foster care where I will stay until we find my forever home.

The doctors can’t decide whether I have a mild case of hydrocephalus or cerebellar hypoplasia and a definitive diagnosis can’t be made without an MRI. I have never had any seizures and have come through two surgeries and anesthesia like a champion, so they think I will live many good years.

I came into foster with undetected front foot problems due to deep-seated chronic infection caused by a variety of factors. These problems soon made themselves known. After four months of extensive medical care, my left foot is almost like new and my right foot is on the homestretch. The doctors are ecstatic because my recovery was way beyond what they expected, but it may be six months to two years before my feet are 100% strong.

Foster mom and dad made modifications so that I could continue to live a good life. I have an elevated dog table for my food and water, a tilted food bowl to accommodate my underbite, a harness that unbuckles in four places because I don’t like things pulled over my head, boots and wool socks that I am supposed to wear when I am outside, custom made carpal pad protectors, lots of toys, and an orthopedic doggie bed. All this gear will follow me to my forever home, and I get a 50% discount on my boots for life. Foster mom will share the brand name and discount code with you when you adopt me.

Here is a check list for my future family: Are you looking for a house dog? Are you willing to take me on very short walks in the foreseeable future? Can you overlook that I may never be a jogging buddy or hiking partner? Can you forego playing frisbee or soccer? I don’t see very well, so frisbees and soccer balls whizzing over my head are very scary and I will cower or run for the house. Would you be happy doing rally, formal obedience (novice to intermediate), or scent work? Maybe therapy dog? Are you looking for a smart dog? A happy dog? A full of life dog? Lots of doggie kisses? A dog who will love you to the moon and back? Are you willing to patiently follow the medical plan put in place to ensure my feet stay healthy and continue to become stronger? Can you be firm with me when I am being precocious? If you can check yes to all the above, then fill out an application because I’m your guy!!! I expect you might have questions about me, so foster mom will be happy to answer them!

Hope to meet you soon!

Love-Tango

Tango is a young Border Collie with two left feet looking for a partner with two right feet to dance through life with.

You see, Tango is a hydrocephalic puppy-and his gait makes it look like he is dancing-you guessed it- the tango! He was supposed to be put down at eight weeks old, but a kind-hearted young man saved Tango's life and became his person. The young man is no longer able to be Tango's person, so now he belongs to the GLBCR family. It is obvious that Tango was much loved, worked with, and encouraged to be as normal as possible.

Tango has not let his disability get in the way of living like a normal BC-and in the fast lane at that. His small, wide-set brown eyes exude laughter, he is whip smart, and joi de vie oozes from every pore of his body. It is fun watching Tango and Cody chase each other around the yard and get into doggie wrestling matches. Sometimes he joins Maggie in squirrel and bird patrol. Just watching his antics makes my heart smile.

He has a strange way of eating and drinking and will benefit from an elevated dog table. I have ordered one, but in the meantime his water dish is on a Rubbermaid tub and I hold the food bowl at his level. Nothing wrong with this kid's appetite!

He is delightful and inspirational!
